The samples from 48 countries took part in the competition, including France, Italy, Germany, and Portugal. Sparkling wine Abrau Durso Reserve Brut and red wine Tsimlyansky Cherny oak aged of 2017 by Vedernikov Winery received the highest awards.
The aim of the Europe Wine Awards competition is to establish the best samples of the winemaking and alcohol industries, which are promising for export, and to give manufacturers an opportunity to demonstrate the quality of their products at the international level. The winners receive medals — from bronze to unique triple gold — based on the complex criteria that include quality, organoleptic characteristics, package design, and quality-to-price ratio. The international jury is comprised of 92 experts who are the winemaking and alcohol industry professionals, such as sommeliers, procurement specialists, hotel and restaurant managers, distributors, and importers. Experts from different fields are invited to examine the samples to provide as versatile opinion as possible.
Two samples presented by Abrau-Durso Group — Abrau Durso Reserve Brut and red wine Tsimlyansky Cherny oak aged of 2017 by Vedernikov Winery — received the triple gold medals, which is the highest award. Wines are awarded the triple gold if they are scored unanimously high by the experts in terms of quality and selling potential in the European and other markets. The judges appreciated the vivid structure of Abrau Durso Reserve Brut with rich long-lasting aftertaste and bright tones of green apple and lemon twist. Tsimlyansky Cherny with its rich oak hints in aroma and complex well-balanced flavor also won.
Chardonnay Abrau-Durso from the limited collection of still wines with protected designation of origin of 2022 won the double gold — an award given to wines received the highest scores of the jury by all criteria. The experts noted the silky texture of the wine, as well as its mineral hints and subtle oak nuances, which precisely convey the specifics of the Abrau-Durso terroir.
