On 15th October, Vedernikov Winery, a member of Abrau-Durso Group, presented their debut collection of classic sparkling wines: Sibirkoviy extra brut, Tsimlianskiy Cherniy/ Sibirkoviy extra brut/ Tsimlyanskiy Cherniy brut, and Tsimlyanskiy Cherniy rose brut.
«Vedernikov estate has a 300 years' history of winemaking. This is one of the oldest winegrowing regions in Russia. The Don winery traditions are alive today: Vedernikov Winery is known for their still wines made from autochthonic local varieties. We have been looking forwards to our debut sparkling wines and we are very proud of the outcome. I am convinced that the new collection will get high scores both from experts and from wine lovers who appreciate our brand", said Pavel Titov, President of Abrau-Durso Group.
The terroir on the right shore of the Don consists of steep slopes and the adjacent steppe. The continental climate with its cold winters and dry summers defines the specifics of how the Vedernikov Winery treats the vines. The historical traditions of covered own-rooted vine growing help them get unique results. The content of the soils also plays a significant role. The Vedernikov Winery has southern black soils with a lean fertile layer. The bedding rock is clay, while the parent rock is shell. Thanks to the seashell, Vedernikov wines have a delicate minerality to them that can be felt in the new collection of sparkling wines.
The genuine Don varieties are something the company is especially proud of. Vedernikov Winery has the largest plantations of autochthonic varieties: Tsimlyanskiy Cherniy, Sibirkoviy and, of course, Krasnostop Zolotovskiy, the leader in the Russian winemaking. In the process of making the sparkling wines using the classic method, each of the unique autochthonic varieties showed its distinctive stylistic and organoleptic qualities. Sibirkoviy revealed itself the best in the extra brut style. Tsimlyanskiy Cherniy allowed the winemakers to get both Blanc de Noirs with a complex aroma and volumetric texture and the classic Rose with subtle tones of tender red berries. The decoration of Vedernikov's collection was a unique assemblage of Sibirkoviy and Tsimlyanskiy Cherniy varieties, which complemented each other creating an exquisite mix.
"Vedernikov Winery is famous for experiments and innovations. Our collection of sparkling wines is the next step towards establishment of the autochthonous varieties. It helped the traditional Don varieties reveal their multisided beauty to the fullest extent", — said Maxi Troychuk, Head of Vedernikov Winery.
The collection of sparkling wines is made using the classic method of secondary bottled fermentation and is aged on lies for more than 12 months. All the wines are of protected geographical indication and are fully made from autochthonous varieties. In total, 50,000 bottles will be produced within the limited collection. The wines will be presented in selected restaurants of Moscow and St. Petersburg and in the branded Abrau-Durso Wine Atelier boutiques.
