ABRAU-DURSO PRESENTS ABRAU ESTATES, A NEW COLLECTION OF STILL WINES

Russian Wine House Abrau-Durso presents Abrau Estates, a new collection of still wines in the medium-price bracket. The new lineup includes two classic blends with a modern twist: white dry – an assemblage of Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc – and red dry – a blend of the Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon varieties.

Russian Wine House Abrau-Durso is currently best known primarily for its sparkling wines. However, more than 150 years ago the history of the appanage estate began with the production of still wines. In 2017, the company made up its mind to get back to its roots and revive its range of still wines by marketing its premium collection of mono-varietal wines under the Abrau-Durso brand. Since their debut, these wines have received the highest scores and praise from both Russian and international experts, winning gold at influential international wine competitions including Decanter Wine Awards and Mundus Vini. In 2021, Russian Wine House Abrau-Durso is looking to expand its share in the market for still wines and launches a new collection, Abrau Estates, this time in the mid-price segment.

The Abrau Estates collection includes two blended PGI wines: white dry and red dry. Grapes for both wines are hand-picked from specially selected areas. White wine is aged in steel tanks at a controlled temperature, whereas red wine is partially aged in oak and in steel tanks for nine months:

  • Abrau Estates Red Dry Wine is a classic Bordeaux blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The focus of the wine is on bright aromas and rich structure.
  • Abrau Estates White Dry Wine is a blend of Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. To preserve its freshness, acidity and vivid aromatic bouquet, it undergoes slow fermentation at reduced temperatures, followed by aging on the lees.

“Abrau Estates is a line of classic assemblages with a modern twist. We challenged ourselves with the task of making fresh, rich and fruity wines that most consumers will comprehend. At the same time they have a complex, ‘adult’ flavor profile. We hope that the new collection will be appreciated and find its rightful place amidst medium-priced wines,” says Alexey Sidorenko, head of the still wines project at Abrau-Durso.

The design of the new line naturally deserved special attention. Abrau Estates boasts classic Bordeaux bottles with pronounced shoulders and a massive bottom. The labels feature the depiction of a path running uphill between vineyards. The use of a large, bold type, stamping, and lacquering are the tribute to fresh trends in modern wine marketing.

The combined release of the new collection is 90,000 bottles, which includes 60,000 bottles of red wine and 30,000 of white wine. The new wines will originally be presented at the chain of Abrau-Durso Wine Atelier boutiques, and will eventually be delivered to federal retail chains as well. The Abrau Estates wines will be available at Wine Atelier outlets at RUB 410.
