Abrau-Durso Presents the First Orange-Style Wine in the Abrau Estates Collection

Yubileinaya Winery, a member of the Abrau-Durso Group, keeps on creating new wines from unique domestic grape varieties. This time the modern Abrau Estates collection of still wines is enriched with a bright summer novelty — a fancy orange-style wine made by the original technology from the late-ripening citron magaracha grape.

Represented by classic wines made from famous European grape varieties and original wines made from Russian grape varieties, the modern Abrau Estates collection of still wines has been expanded with a novelty of interest. Abrau Estates Orange is the first orange-style wine in the Abrau-Durso Group’s portfolio made from the selected citron magaracha grape variety having velvety texture and fruity aroma that establish the unique rich flower and citrus flavor of this wine.

Generally, wines of amber colors with bright aroma and the hints of dried fruits, honey, herbs and nuts are known worldwide as orange. Georgia is regarded as a trendsetter of orange-style wines. However, today they are very popular around the world and keep stealing the scene. The main feature of the orange wines is that they are derived from white grapes using the techniques traditionally used for red winemaking, in other words, unlike the white winemaking technology, this involves fermentation on skins to give the wine its unique color and character.

Instead of the popular Georgian varieties, Abrau Estates Orange is made from the selected citron magaracha grape variety from the muscat family.  It was selected from various grape varieties, primarily rkatsiteli and madeleine angevine. And instead of the traditional qvevri (amphora), the more recent and advanced technology of horizontal vinifiers were used at Yubileinaya Winery. The resulted Abrau Estates Orange has rich flavor and perceptible texture shading into striking and astringent finish.

The production process of this new product in the Abrau Estates collection involved the state-of-the-art technologies and hand-picking. Prior to crushing, grapes are held at a low temperature, the cold maceration method in used for rich and bright aroma. Thanks to this technology the aroma of Abrau Estates Orange has citrus shades with hints of mint.

“At Yubileinaya Winery we produce wines from selected grape varieties and explore their potential. It is citron magaracha for Abrau Estates Orange. We used the cold maceration method and horizontal vinifiers for grape treatment. Our Orange is characterized by citrus tones and juicy and rich flavor the true value of which can be appreciated by not only the orange style fans, but also all domestic wine drinkers,”  chief winemaker of Yubileinaya Winery Anton Katarzhin tells about the new product.

Abrau Estates Orange stands out for its gastronomic versatility. It is a perfect choice for summer favorites. This wine, limited to 20,000 bottles, will be available in Abrau-Durso Wine Atelier boutiques and 1870 Abrau-Dursо restaurants. It will cost RUB 650 in the Abrau-Durso Wine Atelier boutique in Moscow.
