Abrau-Durso Russian Wine House Wins 8 Top Awards at Mundus Vini 2018 International Contest
Wines from Abrau-Durso, Usadba Divnomorskoe, and Vinodelnya Vedernikov collections have been awarded with one gold and seven silver medals at Mundus Vini 2018 international tasting competition held in Neustadt, Germany.
Mundus Vini competition has been held in Germany for twenty-two years in a row. This year 6,670 wines from all over the world were presented at it. As many as 270 judges from 44 countries evaluated the flavor and quality of samples blindly, without knowing the country, name, variety, and vintage date. As a result of the competition, only 40% of the participants were awarded with medals: gold ones were given to the samples scoring 90 points and more, and silver ones – 87 points and more.
This year, Abrau-Durso Russian Wine House brought its Brut d’Or Blanc de Blancs to Neustadt for the first time. The judges highly appreciated this elegant sparkling wine with a fine flowery and fruity aroma, made using the classic technology from Chardonnay grapes and aged in mountain tunnels for at least three years. Brut d’Or Blanc de Blancs 2013 was awarded with a silver medal and received 89 points from the demanding judges. Four Usadba Divnomorskoe wines (Blanc de Noir 2014, Grand Rose 2014, Pilot Blanc 2015, and Chardonnay 2015) and two samples from Vinodelnya Vedernikov collection (Rkatsiteli 2015 and Krasnotop Zolotovsky 2014) were also honored with prestigious awards. Usadba Divnomorskoe Merlot 2014 was named the best wine of Russia. It was awarded a gold medal and got a very high score of 92 points. Mundus Vini 2018 Award Ceremony will take place on March 18 in Neustadt, Germany.
Russian wines won the first gold medal of Mundus Vini back in 2010: the award was given to Donskaya Chasha White 2009 made from Rkatsiteli grapes by Vinodelnya Vedernikov. Last year, wines produced by Usadba Divnomorskoe and Vinodelnya Vedernikov wineries won two gold and two silver medals as well.
